great article written about custom PROFESSIONAL photography…to our customers. this is not an article i have written-it’s worded so much better than i could!

in this day and age of everyone having a camera and calling themselves a photographer, our clients and customers need to be more savvy in their search for ‘the… photographer’ for them. spend wisely once…have no regrets!

consumers nowadays have TONS of photographers to choose from: from the very inexpensive to the most expensive.  this series of articles does a wonderful job of explaining the differences and WHY photographers choose the pricing that they do.  it breaks my heart when i hear of people being so disappointed with images done by inexperienced or little experienced people calling themselves photographers and CHARGING money for what often times appears as nothing more than a snapshot that anyone could take.  lighting, posing, background, depth of field all play such a LARGE part in the creation of an image, and without education, experience, and understanding of body and facial structure, images can often times be not very flattering or appealing.

please take a few minutes to read the linked articles and educate yourself so that you spend your time and money wisely…it’s all about being smart these days!

Perfectly Dressed Girl Model Search Voting Now Open

first off…THANK YOU to all the parents and girls that participated in the 2nd Annual Perfectly Dressed Girl model search!  you all were a joy to work with!  i wish you all the best in the competition.

just a quick review of the rules for voting and such:

•     The contestants entry images will be posted online at  www.kallhoffportrait.com/blog for two weeks where you will be able to view and vote for your favorites.  The winner of each category will be based on the number of votes received, only one vote per contestant, per computer will be allowed.

•    The winners will be announced at www.kallhoffportrait.com/blog on Monday April 19, 2010.

•    The winners will be photographed again by Heather Kallhoff and featured in the Perfectly Dressed Girl Holiday 2010 ad campaign.  The winners will receive a $50 gift certificate towards the dress of their choice from our 2010 Holiday collection & an Artists Choice 10 Image Brag Book from the model session, courtesy of Kallhoff Portrait.

INTRODUCING: Simply Kids…a new division of Kallhoff Portrait

i’ve thought about this for a while…what makes me happiest to photograph?  i’ve been lucky enough to be in this profession full-time for 10 years…and over those years, i’ve had the opportunity to photograph many things, place and people.  i am so thankful for all the people i’ve met, the places i’ve been!

but, my first love, what i always thought i would do FOREVER was teaching.  i was fortunate to be a teacher for 13 years…11 of those years working with special needs children, the other 2 years with 3rd. graders.  i left teaching to be a mom, and to follow this dream of photography, and i’ve never looked back.   it’s been wonderful to ‘teach’ other photographers over the last 10 years, so, in essence, i’ve never quit being a teacher!

what i’m finding out tho, is that i MISS working with kids…i miss the laughter, the silliness, the innocence of childhood…and so THAT has motivated me to shift a BIT of our emphasis at kallhoff portrait to that of kids.

so, it is with great pleasure that i introduce…SIMPLY KIDS…

and to launch it, we are going to have a FRESH FACES children’s portrait contest.

the goal of this contest is to create some amazing new images to reflect our new direction, as well as to feature our winners in our booth at a regional baby fair this may.  if you are interested in having your child participate in this contest, please contact heather either by phone 605-886-8858, or by email: heather@kallhoffportrait.com.

miss ‘a’ and mr. ‘m’ come for polar express and winter wonderland

miss ‘a’ and mr. ‘m’ are at that 15 month age of boundless energy!  i love that they are just like mini energizer bunnies…just bounding from one place to another!  one would laugh, the other would cry, one would sit, the other would run…and then to have the crowd of adults that were completely at their beck and call.

good thing there was no hidden camera to record the behind the scenes happenings!

we ended the session with miss ‘a’ and her lovely parents, who, i think had to have pulled off the BEST thanksgiving surprise!

thanks for taking the time to come–it was a blast!
