opus magnum monday!

as i head off to the cities today to pick up MY christmas present, i am going to try to enjoy some phenominal music to fill my head with imagery–i do my best creative thinking while driving (scary, i know!).
SO, some Georgia (italian female artist), a little josh groban, and the classic mix’s to drive to.
BUT, a little eye candy for you all is what i have promised. I am really loving painting, although i’m not very accomplished. forever i have enjoyed this artist’s work, ever since i had the opportunity to view an original in an art gallery in new orleans many years ago. i am inspired by his passion, his youth, his talent, and mostly his abstract impressionism styling. Henry Asencio is his name.

i have FINALLY finished texturing the 2 false walls in the studio! i never thought 4 sides would take this long, but trying to conduct business and texture isn’t always the most efficient process i have come to learn. thank you to my kind and understanding clients who smiled confidantly when i said for a week that ‘today i will finish’ and yet when they would come back a few days later, i was not…you are kind kind people for not telling me that i was delusional!

opus magnum mondays

i think one of the changes i want to make with the blog is MONDAYS…i don’t know about you, but, mondays are tough. you come off the weekend, tired, not really wanting to go back to work, but you do anyway. i think i want to start the week with art…even if it’s only a mental vacation, it’s at least SOMETHING!!
so, opus magnum mondays are born. first a definition. opus magnum: is simply “a great work” rather than “the great work” of someone specific. A masterpiece may be small, short or slight, but still highly successful. An opus magnum may be generally regarded as a failure.
i like that. it depends on who’s viewing the work as to whether it is considered a masterpiece or a failure…i like that it leaves art open to discussion.
so, today is starts opus magnum mondays. i encourage you to share your thoughts–i want to know how and what you think!

i am so humbled by this experience, but i have to admit, it’s been kinda cool too…a client contacted the paper regarding my work and a recent accolade, and the paper came out and did a story on me.
first, how amazing is it that a client would do that??!! secondly, that the paper even thought it was newsworthy?! again, i’m totally amazed and humbled.

finally some creative time for me

all orders are in, clients have been emailed, and with the peace of mind that comes with knowing all will have their images before christmas–i found some creative time for me!
enjoy a few paintings that i was able to do today.
i am going to make a point of carving out time for me…to nurture the creative side that lots of time gets pushed aside with the responsibilities of owning a business, being a mom, running a house, and all the other things we ‘adults’ get to do.

as he brings 3-4 boxes from lab every day to the house! i’m working through the boxes as quickly as possible to check in everyone’s orders and call/email people as soon as we are sure their order is complete. please know that ALL orders have gone off to lab and are coming back with a GUARANTEE of Christmas delivery…
please know that the lab, UPS delivery, and i are all working as hard as we can to be speedy and efficient in getting your precious images and orders delivered to you. i appreciate your patience and understanding with this process!

Yippeeee! that is a huge relief to me, it causes me great stress and anxiety–but i have such a horrible time to saying ‘no’ to people when it comes to ordering. i set deadlines, and it always seems that the procrastinators get me to say ‘yes’.
ANYWAY–off to lab they all are, and in a few days, the avanlanche of lab boxes will occur worse than the already 2-3 boxes a day!!

i’m so excited…it’s a crazy busy time with orders, sessions, and cards to get out, but, on thanksgiving, i was finally able to get some help to get the signage up at the new studio. finally, it looks like there IS something in that section of the building…lol.
the move is at a standstill for this week, to get all orders out, but, am hoping this weekend to finish plastering the two false walls, and then get them painted and glazed. the other walls look AWESOME-they are a chocolate brown with a yummy bronze glaze over them. looks so rich and warm.
pictures will come later on that. for now…the front of the new studio! the studio is located at 306 1st. Ave NE. in the block between Year Round Brown and County Fair Foods.
